Dear Neighbour,
In Friday’s newsletter, we mistakenly wrote that clocks should be turned back this weekend. However, it’s spring - and so as Ontario switches to Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, March 9 at 2:00AM, clocks will actually jump forward by one hour so please remember to turn your clocks one hour forward!
How do you feel about Daylight Saving Time? It's a controversial issue, with some people embracing the fact that it means more sunlight in the evening while others lamenting that it robs us of an hour of sleep when the time changes. It may also lead to some energy savings over the course of the summer but this is debated, and some health experts have found evidence that the time change is associated with an increased risk of heart attacks, stroke, and motor vehicle accidents due to the disruption in our circadian rhythm.
Did You Know: In 2020, the Ontario Legislature passed Bill 214, the Time Amendment Act which would make Daylight Saving Time permanent year-round (there would no longer be any time changes throughout the year). It received Royal Assent but will only come into force if Quebec and New York State make the same change.
In any case, we apologize for the error in our email yesterday and look forward to talking to you next week!
Sincerely,
Adil
